The Valley County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff. The applications will be used to establish a list for the next hiring process and future hiring processes. The starting hourly rate is $17.84 per hour and $18.26 after the first year of employment. In addition, there is an additional shift differential rate of $0.80 an hour for nights, holidays, and weekends. Longevity pay increase of 1% of the base salary per year is a guaranteed yearly minimum wage increase, which is received every year after the first year of employment. Health insurance is available upon 30 days of employment. On-call pay, standby pay, grant overtime pay, and coroner pay may also be included in a 28-day work period. Uniforms and equipment are supplied initially. After one year of employment, a yearly $1,000 uniform and ammunition allowance is supplied. A 1,000 rds of ammunition is also provided yearly. Continuing law enforcement education and training are opportunities provided during employment at the Sheriff’s Office during employment. There are also opportunities to be involved in specialized Sheriff’s Office positions upon completion of the probationary period and as are available.
